Common name for the Silver Dapple color is chocolate or chocolate palomino.
The Silver Dapple gene is a dilution gene (his symbol is Z). It dilutes black pigment but not red. The
black or brown color will be diluted to chocolate and the silver dapple gene as a stronger diluting effect
on the mane and tail, turning them to some shade of silver (from nearly white to a grayish silver).
The Silver Dapple gene is dominant : only one Z gene is necessary to give the color and homozygous
silvers (ZZ) look like heterozygous silvers (Zz).
Silver Dapple color is rare among gypsy cobs. Rob Roy's sire, The Boss, also called The Business has
become a true legend. Not only is The Boss known for producing the rare chocolate coloring, but he is
known for putting incredible amounts of feather and muscular bodies on his babies. The Business now
lives in the USA where his stud fee is $ 3,500.
The Boss has given his silver dapple color to his son Rob Roy and his mother gave him her tobiano
coloring. Rob Roy is Zz and also Ee. He can produce many colors, depending of the mare : tobiano, solid,
black, red, chocolate...
